Este película independiente que narra una importante problemática en la comunidad jóven de hoy en día, es una joya de filme, que definitivamente no tiene desperdicios, no obstante los pocos recursos que se incurrió en grabarla. Definitivamente es una muestra más de que para hacer un gran filme, sólo hay que tener un buen guión y una buena dirección de los actores del reparto, después de ahí, hasta J-Lo se gana un premio!
La historia relata la noticia de que Juno queda embarazada luego de una confusa tarde de sexo entre jovencitos del bachillerato y su reacción sobre como enfrentar dicho problema. La verdad es que la primera opción de Juno, como muchas, fué el aborto. No obstante, se descarta dicha posibilidad y se embarca a la aventura de tener el bebé para darlo en adopción a una familia que le pueda dar un buen futuro a dicho bebé. De ahí surgen muchísimas situaciones que definen ésta película como una de mis favoritas, por el humor, el sarcasmo, la ironía, en general todas las extrañas situaciones en las que Juno se mete hacen de esta pelicula una excelente opción
Esta película la ví hace ya un buen tiempo, peor no había escrito un review sobre ella. Es básicamente un thriller donde nuestro querido Mathew Fox (Lost) nos deleita increiblemente con una historia de 7 puntos de vista diferentes de un atentado en contra del Presidente de los Estados Unidos de América, en una conferencia de paz convocada en Sevilla, España. La historia presenta a los personajes de Zoé Saldaña, Mathew Fox, Dennis Quaid, Forrest Whitaker, que con otros personajes se conectan en una historia que definitivamente les mantendrá a la expectativa sobre el desenlace final de toda esta maraña de tiros, epxlosiones, ambulancias y flashbacks (7 por cada personaje) hasta el último minuto de la película.
La trama, describe el regreso a la acción de un oficial del Servicio Secreto del Presidente de los EUA, que hace justamente un año le salvó la vida al Presidente, quien incluso se sorprende de verle de regreso. En su accionar, se encontrará envuelto en una confusísima situación en la que el Presidnete es asesinado por un grupo extremista, justamente al momento en que se prestaba a anunciar el nuevo plan contra el terrorismo internacional que prometía un nuevo despertar de la política internacional hacia dicho mal. Zoé hace de periodista, aunque nunca supimos si quedó viva; Forrest es un turista divorciado que graba incidencias detrás de una cortina que se mostrarán importantísimas al momento de resolver el crímen.
En fin, esta historia promete unas cuantas horas de entretenimiento para adivinar por fin quien es que va a matar finalmente a Dennis, si la carajita quedará viva o aplastada, si agarrarán a los terristas y si realmente lso gringos se van a quedar con un presidente muerto sin que nadie haga nada. No espere ver el próximo Oscar a nada, aunque quizás si pueda ver un premio MTV a "Mejor Explosión del Año", si es que lo tienen ya. El guión es bastante predecible (Con 20 minutos ya yo sabía quienes eran el bueno, el malo y la fea, sin ningún tipo de esfuerzo) y por el 5to. flashback ya uno como que se va cansando de la msima vaina over and over and over... pero espere hasta el final, que se pone buena la cosa! Aunque nada extraordinario...
No sé ni cuanto darle, supongo que con 2.5 Plátanos se hace un mangú mas que bueno, so, coja ahí!

Estelares: Robert Downey, Jr. (Tony Stark/Ironman), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts) y un Cameo de Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury).
Ahora, verdaderamente es la mejor película que he visto con Robert Downey, Jr. desde que hacía mucho (o sea, MUCHO) tiempo allá por 1989, cuando vi con mucho interés "Chances Are" con Cybill Sheppard. En el '92, supe de "Chaplin', pero nunca la he visto completa. Y la verdad sea dicha, Robert ha estado más ocupado en rehabilitación de cuantas drogas y tragos extraños a podido meterle mano, que no es para menos. Sin embargo, no es para menos que se le niegue su capacidad como actor y que sea más conocido por el sin número de noticias que salen de él en los tabloides.
Es por eso, que cuando salió la noticia de que iba a ser Tony Stark, solo pude echarme a reir del disparatazo que iba a ser. Y ni tanto por que sea él (Que sería como el 85% de todo mi asombro), sino porque Robert Downey, Jr. no es un actor de películas de acción. Por lo menos no que yo me haya dado cuenta, pero siempre que oigo Robert Downey, como que siempre me cuadra con comedias romanticas y dramas profundos, pero bueno.... Qué equivocado estaba.
Ironman no lleva consigo los mismos niveles de acción que en otras películas del género, como Spiderman o X-Men, quizás por eso se ha medio salvado el hombre y con ese traje, la mayor parte del trabajo lo habrá hecho un doble, no obstante, el guión es muy bueno y coherente, por lo que el resultado ha sido una pelicula bastante entretenida, con muchas oportunidades de convertirse en una excelente fuente de ingresos para Marvel (Contra todo pronóstico) y que obviamente será fuente de más pelis llenas de superestrellas de Hollywood (Por lo que indica el final).
Gráficamente, esperen algunas explosiones y con los efectos especiales, no son TAN 'wao' pero me imagino que con el traje es más que suficiente para efectos. Y es igualito al del comic! Ojalá que Robert no le coja ahora con su nuevamente encontrada fama para joderse la vida. Miren que para ser superhéroe hay que estar en forma (sino pregúntenle a Tobey McGuire) y da mucha brega subirse esos músculos que tiene ahora con un tremendo pase de lo que sea que fuere que él se metía, así que ya tu sabes pana, CA-BE-ZA!Así que ya saben, vayan y véanla, pero nada que ver con "La mejor de su categoría hasta la fecha'. Ese título es para Spiderman, hasta que salga Dark Knight...

La mejor y más sorprendente de una trilogía de venganza dirigida por el sur koreano Chan-wook Park. Esta segunda parte ganó 16 premios y obtuvo 10 nominaciones en diversos festivales y premiaciones. Esta entrega es bien estilizada, intensa, y tiene una trama que te mantiene en suspenso de principio a fin. Muchos críticos (al igual que yo) consideran esta película como una de las mejores películas de venganzas jamás hecha. Las actuaciones son impecables, la música, edición y por supuesto la dirección.
La película trata de un hombre llamado Oh Dae-su el cual es secuestrado y lo mantienen en una habitación con televisión y sin ninguna comunicación sin saber por qué. La policía le atribuye a él la muerte de su mujer, ocurrida un año después de su secuestro. Oh Dae-su escribe todo lo que haya podido ofender a alguien preguntándose si alguna de esas cosas es la responsable de encontrarse en esa situación. Al cabo de 15 años es liberado y recibe una llamada que le propone descubrir el motivo de su cautiverio.
A la misma hay planes para hacer la versión USA, así que traten de verla antes que Hollywood muy probablemente la arruine como está haciendo con las películas de terror Asiáticas.
Esta película se le quedará quizás por unas buenas horas, días o semanas en la mente. No les diré las razones para no estropearles la emoción y puedan vivir lo que mismo que yo.

Las peliculas de desastres han sido muy comúnes en la industria cinematográfica, la ciudad de Nueva York no ha escapado a este género, por lo que hemos visto en varias producciones como esta ciudad ha sido destruida por monstruos, extraterrestres, terroristas o devastadas por plagas o catástrofes naturales. La más reciente es "Cloverfield", en la que Nueva York es atacada por una criatura gigante desconocido. Otras peliculas son:
"King Kong" (1930) Primera película en la que Nueva York es atacada por un simio gigante, a pesar de que él sólo destruyó un tren elevado.
"When the World Collide"(1951) Un asteroide va a chocar con la Tierra, es el fin del mundo. Unos pocos elegidos escaparán en un cohete, para asegurar la subsistencia del ser humano.
En esta película se ve como una gigantescas olas del mar cochan contra los rascacielos de Manhattan. Por cierto, un remake esta siendo rodado y será producido por Steven Spielberg.
"Planet of the Apes" (1968) El astronauta George Taylor (Heston) se estrella en un lejano planeta distante gobernado por simios, que utilizan a una primitiva raza de seres humanos a modo de experimentación y diversión. Pronto, será el propio Taylor quien se vea perseguido y su vida quedará en manos de un científico chimpancé.
En la escena final, la Estatua de la Libertad aparece dañada y medio enterrada en la playa. Él protagonista se da cuenta de que había estado todo el tiempo een la tierra y que toda la humanidad había sido destruida, dando paso a la supremacía de los simios.
"Soylent Green" (1973) Ubicada en el año 2022, la película presenta una distopía La ciudad de Nueva York está habitada por más de 40.000.000 de habitantes, la ciudad está radicalmente y físicamente separada entre una minoría que vive cómodamente y una mayoría hacinada en calles y edificios donde malvive con agua en garrafas y un producto comestible llamado Soylent red y soylent yellow. El mundo está hipercontaminado, caliente sin ninguna tregua y agotado en recursos y medio físico, la población no tiene acceso a ningún otro tipo de alimentación, formación o cultura y solo algunos privilegiados pueden disponer de algunas verduras o trozos de carne. Un detective investiga el asesinato del presidente de la empresa Soylent. La verdad que descubre que es más preocupante que la agitación en la Tierra cuando él aprende el ingrediente secreto de Soylent Green. También protagonizada por el reciente fallecido Charlton Heston.
"Meteor" (1979) Despues de la coalisión con un metorito, un asteroide de 8km se dirige hacia la tierra. Si este logra chocar causaría enormes catastrofes que que podrían llevar a la extinción de la humanidad. Para impedir que choque cohtra la tierra la NASA quiere utilizar un arma nuclear ilegal, pero pronto descubren que esta no es lo suficientemente potente y la única posibilidad es unirse a ese entonces la unión sovietica. En esta película el edificio WTC es golpeado por uno de los meteoritos.
"Escape from New York" (1981) La historia se sitúa en un hipotético 1997, en el que New York se ha convertido en una mega prisión a la que son llevados los criminales de todos los EE.UU. Allí los presos han construido su propia sociedad fundamentada en la barbárie pero aún así tienen el deseo de escapar. En ese momento una terrorista secuestra el Air Force One y lo estrella en la ciudad con la intención de acabar con el Presidente (Donald Pleasence, pero no consigue su objetivo. Logra que la cápsula en la que se encuentra el Presidente caiga en manos de los reclusos, que no dudan en negociar con su vida a cambio de que la guardia militar les deje escapar y entrar de nuevo en los EE.UU.
"2019:After the Fall of New York" (1983) Esta película italiana se fija después de una guerra nuclear, la sociedad está divida en dos grupos, el mal Euraks y la Federación de rebeldes. El mercenario llamado Parsifal es contratado por la Federación para infiltrarse en la ciudad de Nueva York, que es controlada por el Euraks, para rescatar a la única mujer fértil izquierda en la Tierra.
"Endgame" (1983) Otra película del conjunto italiano en el año 2025, en el que un horrible holocausto nuclear durante la III Guerra Mundial ha dejado a la ciudad de Nueva York, irradiado y decrépito a los habitantes.
"Ghostbuster Iy II" (1989) La ciudad de New York no es destruída pero en ambas películas es atacada por fantasmas,
"Independence Day "(1996) Grandes naves espaciales se ciernen sobre la tierra para luego destruír Nueva York y otras grandes ciudades del mundo.
"Marz Attacks" (1996)Unas naves espaciales con extraños seres verdes llegan a la Tierra. Los humanos están encantados con los nuevos visitantes y desde distintos puntos del planeta se preparan para darles la bienvenida. La plana mayor del ejecutivo americano, encabezada por el presidente Dale, decide preparar una recepción de bienvenida. Todos los humanos de la Tierra verán alteradas sus vidas a partir del instante en que se descubre que los extraterrestres no vienen precisamente en son de paz destruyendo no solo New York, sino casi el mundo completo.
"Armageddon" (1998) Cuando un asteroide del tamaño de Texas se dirige a la Tierra a toda velocidad, la única esperanza del mundo está depositada en un grupo de trabajadores expertos en perforaciones petrolíferas, cuya misión consistirá en desintegrar el asteroide antes de que destruya nuestro mundo. En este heroico viaje, tendrán que superar las más duras condiciones físicas y emocionales a las que jamás se haya enfrentado un ser humano. Objetivo: salvar el planeta y evitar el Armageddon.
A principios de la película una lluvia de meteoritos destrozan un par de famosos rascacielos de New York, así como daños a otros no famosos.
"Deep Impact" (1998) Le quedan pocos días a la humanidad, un descomunal cometa va a chocar con la Tierra y todo rastro de ser vivo desaparecerá. El cometa llega a ser destruíd. El más pequeño de dos piezas de un cometa golpea el océano Atlántico, la creación de un mega-tsunami que destruye la costa este de los Estados Unidos.
"Godzilla" (1998) Una enorme criatura, producto de una explosión nuclear, se dirige hacia la isla de Manhattan creando un efecto de profunda y asombrosa destrucción. Un científico, un reportero de televisión, y un investigador de seguros francés, junto con el ejército de Estados Unidos, unirán sus fuerzas para desvelar el misterio que se encuentra tras la criatura.
"A.I" (2001) Esta película nos transporta a una época futura donde la tecnología está avanzando a un ritmo vertiginoso. En un mundo donde los avances científicos hacen posible la existencia, los humanos comparten todos los aspectos de sus vidas con sofisticados robots denominados Mecas. La emoción es la última y controvertida frontera en la evolución de las máquinas. Pero cuando un avanzado niño robótico llamado David es programado para amar, los humanos no están preparados para las consecuencias. David se encuentra solo en un extraño y peligroso mundo. Ayudado por un androide, David emprende un viaje para averiguar el secreto de su propia identidad, descubriendo un mundo en el que la línea entre los humanos y los robots es aterradora y profundamente delgada. En la misma Nueva York está sumergido y en ruinas como consecuencia del calentamiento global.
"Time Machine" (2002) Un joven científico viaja al futuro y encuentra los Eloi, una raza de cazadores-recolectores, que viven en viviendas en el acantilado lo que se parece a Manhattan. . El orador le muestra una colección de fragmentos de la antigua Nueva York, incluyendo un signo de Tiffany & Company y una parte de los mosaicos de la estación del metro Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall .
"El Core" (2003) En el momento en que el centro de la tierra cesa su actividad rotatoria, la supervivencia sobre el planeta azul comienza una mortal cuenta atrás que sólo puede parar un equipo de terranautas elegidos entre los mejores de diferentes disciplinas.
"The Day After Tomorrow"(2004) El final de la tierra se acerca. El cambio climático está cada vez más próximo. En la ciudad de Nueva York sufren las peores inundaciones jamás inimaginables. Unos días más tarde, hiela y todo que tapado por una gran capa de hielo. Los habitantes emigran a México. Esta acepta la entrada a condición de que se les condone la deuda externa que tienen con el país americano.
"War of the Worlds" (2005) Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) es un descargador de muelle, divorciado y padre nada modélico. Poco después de que su ex mujer y su nuevo marido se vayan después de dejar a Robbie, su hijo adolescente, y a su pequeña hija Rachel para una de sus contadas visitas, estalla una tremenda e inesperada tormenta eléctrica. Unos momentos después, en un cruce cerca de la casa, Ray es testigo de un acontecimiento que cambiará su vida y la de los suyos para siempre. Una enorme máquina de tres patas emerge del suelo y antes de que alguien pueda hacer algo, arrasa todo lo que está a su alcance. Un día como otro cualquiera acaba de convertirse en la fecha más extraordinaria de su vida: el primer ataque alienígena contra la Tierra.
En las primeras escenas de Tom Cruise en Bayonne, NJ dan a entender que la destrucción de la ciudad de Nueva York.
Hasta aquí las películas que pude encontra, me limité a aquellas peliculas en la que New York es devastada por epidemias, monstruos, causas naturales o nucleares, dejando a un lado peliculas en las que es atacada por terroristas, así como también "One Minute in New York"(agregada por un lector), lol.
Les aseguro que se seguirán sumandose muchas peliculas nuevas de destrucciones medida que vaya pasando el tiempo con efectos especiales y grandes presupuestos (no necesariamente). ¿Por qué ?.... Porque la gente le encanta este tipo de películas (incluyendome), ver como famosos lugares son destruídos frente a sus ojos, además, que este género tiene mucho potencial en la taquilla.
Siéntase libre para añadir cualquier otra película en la que la ciudad de Nueva York es destruida o atacado por lo que sea.
Hay películas que marcan un momento en la historia y ésta es probablemente una de esas películas con temas sociales que se ha convertido en punto de referencia para muchas charlas y conferencias sobre el tema, en esta caso el VIH-SIDA y sobre el estilo de vida GLBT.
PHILADELPHIA, con la actuación central de Tom Hanks y con los roles de reparto de Denzel Washington y Antonio Banderas, es un film que llega a una generación de jóvenes que hasta la fecha ha mantenido secreto curiosidad sobre ambos temas y que por tabús, los padres tampoco tocaban en la familia. De hecho no se hizo esperar la reacción de sectores sociales conservadores que entendían que tapando el sol con un dedo, podían mantener la sombra para todos.
La peli también coincide con las campañas de educación sobre VIH-SIDA y con el programa Real World: San Francisco, donde uno de los compañeros era Pedro, un joven gay, latino y que eventualmente murió de SIDA. Lo recordarán por sus enfrentamientos con Buck, que eventualmente fue expulsado de la casa por dicha riña.
PHILADEPLHIA sin embargo es más que el contenido social: Tom Hanks encarna con toda la fidelidad y realidad del mundo el rol de Andy Becket, llevándonos a relacionarnos con su personaje y tocando cada fibra de sensibilidad a través de su recreación tan profesional y merecedora del Premio de la Academia a Mejor Actor Protagónico. Asimismo, Denzel cautiva a todos, pero no como el abogado aquel, sino como la viva representación de todos aquellos que no conociendo la enfermedad (por ignorancia o por falta de información) nos vemos enfrentados a su cruda realidad.
4 Premios de la Academia (Mejor Actor: Tom Hanks, Mejor Guión Original, Mejor Canción: “The Streets of Philadelphia”por Bruce Springsteen y Mejores Logros en Maquillaje) certifican la buena calidad de éste film dirigido por Jonathan Demme.

Estupenda pelicula de crimen y humor negro que nos narra la historia de Jules(John Travolta) y Vincent(Samuel L. Jackson) son dos asesinos a sueldo que trabajan para Marsellus. Este debe ausentarse, y encarga a Vincent que cuide de Mia(Uma Thurman), su atractiva novia. Un difícil compromiso, ya que el anterior hombre que desempeñó esa tarea fue liquidado por Marsellus. Vincent pretende hacer un trabajo rápido y eficaz, pero Mia insiste en salir a cenar juntos, donde improvisan un baile. Cuando llegan a casa, la chica sufre una sobredosis de cocaína y Vincent tiene que recurrir a un antiguo amigo para que solucione el problema.
Bajo esa idea inicial Tarantino construye toda una serie de situaciones que narra de forma episódica y en la cual se dan cita un boxeador fracasado (Bruce Willis), dos homosexuales de gustos sádicos, un narcotraficante histriónico y toda una serie de personajes que se entremezclan conformando una original amalgama de situaciones con destino a un final surrealista.
"Pulp Fiction" es la obra maestra de Quentin Tarantino y una de las mejores de los 90's. La misma significo el retorno a la fama de la entonces apagada estrella "John Travolta". Quentin es todo un genio en la dirección, con excelente uso de la camara, asombrosos angulos, así como también la fluídes con que la historia es contada. Por otra parte, el libreto es excelente, las actuaciones son formidables, los personajes estupendos y los dialogos inteligentes. Sin duda alguna San Pedro no te abrirá las puertas del cielo pues es un pecado irte a la tumba sin ver esta grandiosa pelicula. 5/5 Platanos!

Recientemente una cantidad siginificativa de las producciones estrenadas por Hollywood son remakes de una película vieja o internacional. Tan grande es la fiebre que están rehaciendopeliculas Europeas, Latinoaméricanas o Asiáticas que ni siquiera han sido estrenadas en sus respectivos países; Algunos dicen que "se agotaron las ideas", otros que "es como tratar de reescribir "Don Quijote de La Mancha Man" o repintar "La Mona Lisa".
Antes de abundar sobre el tema aclaro que no tengo nada en contra de remakes, porque gracias a ellos he descubiertos muy buenas peliculas de las cuales nunca había escuchado o si no fuera porque viene un remake nunca me hubiese sentido motivado a ver la original. Una vez sé que una pelicula está en proceso de ser rehecha (remake) trato de poner mis manos en la version original antes de que sea estrenada la nueva versión para luego compararlas.
Algunas películas en verdad merecen hacerle su remake porque ya están demasiadas viejas para esta generación tecnológica, así como también hay otras que no hay necesidad de someterlas a ese proceso. Algo que influye
en que una pelicula extranjera se le haga un remake es el hecho de que a les norteamericanos no les gusta ver peliculas con subtitulos o extranjeras razón por la cual algunas de estas peliculas reciben una exhibición limitada en USA y luego se le hace su versión Hollywoodense. Un ejemplo más aplatanado es este articulo, el mismo lo publiqué en este blog el 26/02/2008 en el idioma inglés, pero al traducirlo al español le cambie algunas oraciones y le añadí otros comentarios pero en esencia es el mismo.
Pero, ¿qué es exactamente una "remake"? Es simplemente una nueva versión de una película que tuvo éxito en el pasado, pero no siempre es así. Para que una pelicula sea considerada un remake tiene que mantener la misma trama, dar créditos al autor y mantener el tono de la película original. Un remake es volver a inventar (además del interés monetario) no una copia. En 1998, Gus Van San intentado copiar cuadro por cuadro la obra maestra de Alfred Hitchcock "Psicosis" y el resultado fue una mala copia al 
carbón a color.También se da el caso en el cual una pelicula es rehecha por el mismo director. El más reciente es el de Michael Haneke el cual hizo la versión americana a la muy buena y cruda a la vez "Funny Games" de 1997 y de origen autriaco. La nueva viersión es protagonizada por Naomi Watts y fue estrenada en el mes de Marzo de este año y recibiendo criticas mixtas. Algunas otras peliculas que fueron rehechas por el mismo director son: "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (1956) de Alfred Hitchcock, "Nitghwatch"(1997) de Ole Bornedal, "The Vanishing" (1993) de George Sluizer, "The Grudge"(2004) de Takashi Shimizu entre otros.
La calidad de un remake varia en acción, trama, violencia, actuando, dirección, etc. Los hay muy buenos (Ocean Eleven, True Lies, The Italian Job, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead, The Hills have Eyes, The Ring y otros), el regulares (The Eye, Diaboliques, The Grudge, I Am Legend), Malos (One Missed Called, Pulse, Black Christmas, The Fog) y desastrosos (Psycho, La Verdad Sobre Charlie, Cast Away, Invisible, Wicked Man).
Un remake puede incluso ganar un Oscar. En 2007 el Oscar a Mejor Pelicula fue otorgado a "The Departed" el cual es un remake de una película de Hong Kong "Infernal Affairs" (2002) la cual tiene dos secuela.
Hollywood seguira haciendo remakes, pues aparte del interes monetario, es más fácil tomar algo que esta hecho y cambiarles algunas cosas y listo! Una nueva producción!. Termino con una lista de remakes que se suponen tendrán exhibición en las salas de cine durante 2008, sin mencionar las que se van a directo a DVD:

One of the best 80's movie the movie is about five students, a jock, a princess, a misfit, a nerd, and a lout have weekend detention. Not much in common, except for having to give up their day, sit in the school library, and write an essay for the principal. Being from such widely different backgrounds and having such completely different personalities, it's inevitable that some frictions and shenanigans develop. After smoking some marijuana, they pour their hearts out to each other, and tell about their fears, secrets, and their deepest emotions, and problems.
Could appear simple teen flix, but it is not. This is movie in which you have to concentrate because it is only base in the characters and the dialogue. The director was a real genius to make movie just base in that without getting boring and monotonous. The dialogue are clever, the direction is great, the cast is perfect and the acting is excellent. Probably this movie will appear outdated to younger viewers but the only thing "outdated" is the clothing styles and the music. What made this movie really special its that it doesn't matter what year you went to high school or what school you even went to, there will always be a "criminal", a "jock", a "princess", a "nerd", and a "basket case".
For starters the screenplay should be taught in school across the world, as it portrays the real life engagements we all face everyday with money and capitalism marking the every step we take. And lets not even go to vanity, cause thats a whole different chapter.
So, the review. The technical aspects in this movie in my opinion are remarkable and the cinematography is very detail oriented in the grotescly genious conception designed for this film, where every bit of humanity is zoomed into for your enjoyment. The screenplay, again, is genious (Big ups to James Uhls!!!, although I'm still wondering what did you smoke to write "Jumper"???) and is actually an adaptation for a novel by Chuck Palahniuk). Eventhough I admit this isn't the kind of movie that would be considered for an Academy Award (Although it was nominated for Achivements in Sound/FX) the portrayals of Edward Norton as Voice Over and Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden where excellent and complemented the story very well.
Helena Bonham Carter was also very good in her duties as the lover for both guys.
Director David Finsher, the same guy from Se7en, really hit the nail with this film, that I invite you all to give a shot. You wont regret it.

The success of Harry Potter, Narnia, and The Lord of the Rings, have spawned a fever for the adaptation of fantasy best-sellers. The most recent adaptation is "The Spiderwick Chronicles".
Peculiar things start to happen the moment the Grace family (Jared, his twin brother Simon, sister Mallory and their mom) leave New York and move into the secluded old house owned by their great, great uncle Arthur Spiderwick. Unable to explain the strange disappearances and accidents that seem to be happening on a daily basis, the family blames Jared. When he, Simon and Mallory investigate what’s really going on, they uncover the fantastic truth of the Spiderwick estate and the creatures that inhabit it.
Although the success of "The Spiderwick Chronicles" did fall short in comparison to other films in the same genre, it did offer some fun and entertainment for the entire family. The pace is fast, and as in previews movies of its genre, the CGI are great and continues to be to focal point.

One thing I assure, we will continue receiving destruction movies from Hollywood with improve special effects and bigger budgets . Why?.... because people loves to this kind of movies (including me) and this genre has potential at the box office.

Finally I had the chance to see this movie in which New York is again destroyed and everything is captured from the perspective of hand held video camera. The movie is exactly the length of a DV Tape and a sub-plot is established by showing bits and pieces of video previously recorded on the tape that is being recorded over. The movie starts as a monster of unknown origin destroys a building. As five friends go to investigate, parts of the building and the head of the Statue of Liberty come raining down. The movie follows their adventure trying to escape and save a love interest of the main character that is trap in her apartment.
The concept is not new; It is a mix between "Godzilla" and "Blair Witch Project". The fact that it is recorded in this way made it more realistic. Some people said that they felt dizzy with the cam shaking but I didn't feel that way. The movies' length is 85 minutes but I found it shorter because it is entertaining. It delivers good tension moments as well as creepy one. The actors are not well know but offers a believable performances. I have to admit that I was expecting a little more that I even stayed sat in my seat when the credits rolled but overall it was good I was thinking about giving it a 3 but than I changed my mind for the actual rating because it is different from other monster movies.

Thelma & Louise

One day they decide to break out of their normal life and jump in the car and hit the road. Their journey, however, turns into a flight when Louise kills a man who threatens to rape Thelma. They decide to go to Mexico, but soon they are hunted by American police.
Why?
This cult classic female power movie, "Thelma and Louise", is well directed by Oscar winning director, Ridley Scott. The characters are exceptionally written, the chemistry between Gena Davis and Susan Sarandon is over the top, the script fascinating and as well as the ending.

The film is great, the story is great, the acting is wonderfull for Denzel, so-so for Russell, but in general, this is definetly one of the best films by Ridley Scott. What's best of this film? Like 95% of it is true, as this is a bio-pic for real-life gangster Frank Lucas. And we do find it appealing that it was Denzel Washington who played him, as for some reason this role came naturally for him, as if it wasn't acting. I would even go farther down the road and dare to say I liked this portrayal better than Daniel Day-Louis' Daniel Plainview in "The Will Be Blood".
Shots are great and the ending is very dramatic, especially the scene at the church, just right before the trial. I really do think this film was a bit under-rated in favor of others, but with that said, I still haven't seen "No Country", so I guess I have to wait.
Definetly a must. 4 Platains, just for the late showing in over 2 and a half hours.

It stars Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, as two cops investigating a series of crimes that recreate the seven deadly sins, eventually leading to a epitomic ending. This is one of Brad's first leading roles, probably the one that put him on the spot as a star. Not to mention, it stars the scariest Kevin Spacey since the usual suspects, which was premiered weeks before this one.
Award-wise, the film didn't load up much, earning nominations for Best Editing at the academy Awards, and it won that year's MTV Movie Award for Best Movie. Which definetly sets this film appart, since it really was a hit on the box office (it earned US$100 Million) but it didn't really make the cross-over push needed to fit the style of movies that win awards. Nonetheless, it is a truly beautiful film shot excellently and it keeps your face stuck to that tv until the very end as it is in my opinion very well writen.
Give it a try, cause I think this film is right up the with the 5 Platain greats of all time.

Tired after the long drive and caught in a storm, she gets off the main highway and pulls into The Bates Motel. The motel is managed by a quiet young man called Norman who seems to be dominated by his mother.
Why?
This is one of my favorite movies. It is consider a masterpiece; one of the greatest movies ever made; the best Hitchcock's thriller/horror movie. The shower killing scene is a classic. Excellent and stylish direction, acting, photographic, soundtrack and a flawless story.

Just when you thought he was part of the 80's action heroes; Sly brought back "Rambo", as he did with "Rocky" in 2007. This time John Rambo has withdrawn into a simple and secluded existence in Thailand, where he spends his time capturing snakes for local entertainers, and chauffeuring locals in his old PT boat. Even though he is looking to avoid trouble, trouble has a way of finding him: a group of Christian human rights missionarie approach Rambo with the desire to rent his boat to travel up the river to Burma. For over fifty years, Burma has been a war zone. The Karen people of the region, who consist of peasants and farmers, have endured brutally oppressive rule from the murderous Burmese military and have been struggling for survival every single day. After some inner contemplation, Rambo accepts the offer and takes the missionaries up the river. When the missionaries finally arrive at the Karen village, they find themselves part of a raid by the sadistic Major Pa Tee Tint and a slew of Burmese army men. A portion of the villagers and missionaries are tortured and viciously murdered, while Tint and his men hold the remainder captive. Concerned by their disappearance, the minister in charge of the mission gathers a group of mercenaries and pleads Rambo transport them with his boat, since he knows their last exact location. But Rambo can't stay behind: he joins the team where he belongs, to liberate the survivors from the clutches of Major Tint in what may be one of his deadliest missions ever.
I admit I was not planning to see this movie because I didn't like that much First Blood II and hated First Blood III. From the trailer this movie looked bad to me bad, I was just attracted for the gore scenes. So, I decided to checked it with a low expectation and what a surprise! Better than I was expecting. As the tag line says " Heroes never die.... They just reload." this installment is literally reload (Rated R). It is the most brutal, goriest and cruelest movie of this franchise. The story is simple but solid, and works on several levels. This is a must see for any person looking for some great action, it doesn't take long at all to get to it. For an action flick, it's a pretty good movie! For a Rambo fan, it is just plain awesome. Personally I found this movie very best after the "First Blood". Gore fans will love it!

The movie is set throughout 1898-1927, following the life of a Daniel Plainview and his son H. W., through his work, first as a miner (i thought gold, but the yahoo review says silver) and tehn his accidental journey into the oil business. This brings him to meet his antagonist through the film, a preacher called Eli Sunday (As if the movie wasn't redneck enough) and from there the story picks up and whatever kind of issue you might be able to think of. I though the storyline could have been faster for a 2 and half hour movie, but then again I'm a lawyer, not a film expert, so I might have missed something all along. The ending could not have been any better, I thought it was marvelous and very entertaining.
The musical score was great. It added great drama to the scenes and underlined the feeling you where supposed to feel at every moment, much like what i said in Atonement, but this time much more darker, as the film is to. Also, the cinematrography here is amazing, reviving the old american west and its rural beauty before the camera lens: Astonishing.
Now, I haven't seen "No Country" or "American Ganster" and I don't know Johnny's opinion on these films, but so far, this one earned every bit of every award it was nominated and awarded this past award season. My only regret is that Paul Dano didn't get more credit for his work.
